THE NEW ZEALAND LOAN.
Tfae iragniticent response of the public in connection with the New Zealand loan of £2,000,000 is a subject for sincere congratulation. Tbat four millions should be subs:ribed on an application for two millions is distinctly creditable to tbe Dominion and its people generally. It shows unmistakably tbe real confidence of investors, while tbe splendid result will mean that the necessary public work of the country will be continued, while th» general progress will be maintained. The most optimistic could hardly have expected such a fine response as is evidenced by the figures ncted, and tbe wisdom of tbe Government in floating a local loan, preferably to going to on the London market, has been fully exemplified. In finanical circles at Home New Zealand will stand higher in estimation than ever consequent on the eucceßful loan flotation which is to a certain extent tbe sequel of the rcsultß from a large export trade.
