PUKEKOHE CONVENT.
Puoils' Annual Concert. The annual concert given by the pupih aieoding the Pukekohe Convent in aid of the Convent Funds was held before a Urge and appreciative audience in the Premier Hall on Thursday night last. The Mayor, Mr H. G. K. Mason, made a brief speech, explaining that it was owing to arrangements having been formulated some few months past that the entertainment was being held at that time, when various patriotic functions were in progress He apologised for the unavoidable absence of the Rev. Father Molloy, and further intimated that two young lady perfomers would, durirg the evening, render an appeal song, the proceeds ot which would be donated to Paddy's Fair. Twenty-five items were rendered each passing off without delay and in a manner that did justice tu the young performers who in soma instances, particularly in the tableaux, were called on to negotiat lengthy and difficult passages. The limelight effects, manipulated by Mr J. Coady, served to add to the brilliancy of the scenes and intensified the picturesqueness of the costumes worn by these on the stage.
The proceeds included £7 collected at the doors, and a further sum as the result of the sale of tickets by the pupils. The performers included the following viz.—Songs: Boys, L. Roadley, and D. The appeal song contributed by the Misses A. McShane and E. Frost resulted in a sum of £1 9s 8d being secured for Paddy's Fair i Fund.
The accompaniments to tbe various items were played by Misses Joaie Clarke, Irene Williams, Rita hnd Annie Hogan and Muriel Adams (piano) and Miss Marion Woods and Master Gordon Fitness (violin).
