•NEW AND POWERFUL WEAPON IN USE." QUICKER END-LESS BLOOD FRENCH CONSULS DISCLOSURE. Spealr'ng at the Eight-hour banquet at the Trades Hall Sydeny, recently, M. Chayet, Consul-General for France, made an interesting statement regarding France's determination to adopijl some means that would end the war quickly, while making it le>s sanguin ary. He said that all that was required now was unity among the peoples of the Allied nations, and continued : "We will do our utmost to shorten this dreadful war, and make it less* sanguinary. While 1 have no officiiiil information to impart to you, 1 maysay that I have learned by private letter that, for some weeks—only a few weeks —tho French army is in possession of a very powerful weapon. "Our advance on Saturday last must, in a measure, l> attributed to the use of thi h new v.apon. 1 hopp that it will be a very important fnotor in mak-'ng the war shorter. At the some time T am .sure that von will neglect nothing to aid your Government and the Brit : s!i Empire to which you belong to bring the end near, so that in the beautiful words of your _ so;vj 'Rule Britannia,' you never will be slaves."
