WAIUKU NEWS.
A well-attended pubilc meeting was held in the Public Hall on Wednesday last, when a lining addraaaes were given by Meesre Uilliea and Park, who are devoting their time to the intereata of the forthcoming Soldiers' Carnival.. All present were formed into a c mmittee to arrange for entertainments, subscriptions, »ale of badges, etc., t.n behalf uf the big effort for lha Wounded Soldiers' Fund. On Tuesday morning Colonel Cosgrove, Dominion Chief bcout, paid' a short visit to Waiuku to enct uiage the boy Scout movement. He was met by Chief Scoutmaster Fusee!l, who is in chaige of tbia district, and reviewed about 40 of tbe boys. The Colonel gave the bovs a short but inspiring address, and expressed himself as very pleased with the progress of the movement in Waiuku, particularly ia connection with their excellent physical training under Instructor Fearniey. Before leaving, the Colonel made several recommendations Which the officer in charge will carry out at an early date. A street collection for wounded soldiers was made in Waiuku on Saturday last by aeveral young ladiea of the district, who met with every encouragement. About £23 ia said to have been gathered into the funds.
