PUKEKOHE EAST.
The ladies' return ball held on Thursday last was made the occasion of farewelling the local "boys" wno were leaving the district for training at Trentham, viz., Messrs B. Dougherty, R. Pirie and J. W. Morgan. The hal), which was artistically decorated with flower?, ferns, etc., was packed to its utmost limits, all being anxious to partake ot the ladies' hospitality and to say goodbye to the "boys." Dancing commenced at 8 p.m. and was carried on until the small hours ot the morning. The rendering ot patriotic songs by Mrs Keane, Mr J. Banks and Mr Nicholls was greatly applauded. Miss M. A. Jones, in a stirring patriotic speech, bade the "boys" farewell and God Speed. At the Conclusion Mr G. Keane, un behalf of tbe bachelors, thanked the ladies for their pleasant evening. The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Mjbs M. A. Junes, hon. secretary, and Miss L. Morgan, and the music supplied Jby Mrs Keane ot her usual high order.
