PAPAKURA.

[A branch office of the "Pukekobe Times" has been opened m Papakura at the land and estate agency building of Mr Godwyn D. Smith under tbe residential mansgemeLt of Mr A. G. Yardley. Advts. and piinting orders will be received at the office and notices ot forthcoming events in tbe Papakuia, Drury, Clevedon, Rama Kama, Bombay and surrounding districts should be

sent to Mr Yardley]. Tenders are invited per the mediam of our advertising columns by Messrs Wade and Wade, architect \ of Auckland, for alterations and rcnovatijrs to the Papakura Hotel, and to tha Papakura Public Hall.

The Railway Department has practically decided on the alteration of time-table for the suburban train s:rvice, which allows for more tiains, but it is anticipated that difficulties are likely to be met with in connection with the bousing of th i extra men and thsir families, whom the Department proposes to locate at Papakura. The new service, with Papakura as the terminus, will mean that at least twelve railway men, most of whom will be married, will need residences, aud, therefore, in view of the fact that even now efficient buying accommodation is not availatle tor any new-comer, tbe officers of th i Department are concerning | themselves as to the possibility of the erection ot mire cottage?. Mr Richardson, who is recognised as a most progressive man, has been approach.d*in the matter, and be has had interviews with the railway authoriti s, with the result that he is firmly convinced tbat, in the interests of Papakura, residences will have to be erecteJ. It is by no means improbable tbat, in tha event of the town being unable to accommodate the men, the Department will alter its proposals and Papakurj will be left Badly lamenting. This is another instance of where faith in the town is necifsary for its welfare, and it is forucate indeed that at least one man re:ogmses Papakura's possibilities. Mr Richardson, when visitiog Auckland, informed the authorities tbat he would tee wtat be could do towards endeavouring to induce tbrae other prominent townspeople to erect three residences eacb and thus fill ths want. It ib to be hoped tbat in this he will be successful and then the town will be taking another step on tbe road of progress. In addition to th? presentation, made him by the staff, Mr K. Whitley was -the recipient of a wristlet watch from Messrs Willis Bros, before proceeding to Trentham. Mr K. Mack, anplber local boy, goes into camp at the same time as Mr Whitley. A splendid offer of a section ol land " his been made by Messrs Willis Bros, to the Papakura Carnival Committee. Tbe committee is willing to receive utber similar donations and really expects some.
