At last Bulgaria has entered into a military convention with Germany and Austria for the invasion of Serbia. This clears the air to a considerable extent, and M. Radoshvoff statement that Bulgaria was unable to accept the Entente proposals "because they concerned neither Macedonia nor Greek territories" proves tint her course of action has been decided exclusively upon the bids made fo r her support. What Bulgaria resents particularly is the Serbian acquisition nt Central Macedonia, and the Greek occupation of the Valley of the Strauna and of Kavalla. Another point to remember is that among Germany's promises is Albania, and in this country Italy has vital interests to uphold, for the port of Avlona is the Gibraltar uf the Adriatic. It is a well known fact that Germany has, or at any rate had, hopes of forming a great Empire with Constantinople as its centre, and doubtless King Ferdinand's vanity has been tickled by promises of the position of King Emperor. But the foretelling of tin Bulgarian attack on Serbia brings tbe position of Greece into very great prominence. Greece has a treaty with Serbia tor the maintenance of the fruits of the second Balkan war, and the acquisition of Nothern Macedonia, which Bulgaria always claimed and agitated to obtain for years. The policy of Greece, therefore, since ths European war commenced, has been to keep herself in readiness tor any eventuality during Serbia's heroic struggle with Austria and to oppose anyone who would disturb the treaty of Bucharest. One of the main reasons why Greece is so vitally concerned in Serbian Macedonia is because through it runs tbe railway connecting the port of Salonjka, through the Vardar Valley, with Serbia, Greece has been permitting the use of this railway for the sending of supplies to Serbia. Doubtless Bulgaria wjl attempt to cut the Vardar railway and thus deprive Serbia from Allied assistance save by impracticable routes through Montenegro or Albania. The permanent cutting of the railway would mean the end of Serbia, and Greece cannot allow this to take place. Therefore her only course "commei curate with the dangers menacing the country s greatest interests," to use M. Venezols's own words, necessitates the protection of this line, and this being so, how could Greece logically prohibit tbe Allies landing at Salonika to help her in this particular work. The great danger in regard to "Jreece is the fact that the ruling family in Germanophile, in fact, as is well known, the Queen is the Kaiser's sister. M. Venezelos has stated the clear duty of his country, but this has earned a break with the King, resulting in M. Verezelos's resignation, which is a grave development.
