THE RAMA RAMA TRAGEDY.
The funeral of Mr John Thomas Perry, the victim of the Rama Rama tragedy, took place at the Bombay Cemetery, on Monday afternoon last. The cortege left the deceased's late residence at 2 p.m, sympathy in his untimely death being shown by the many settlers who attended to take part in the mournful ceremony. The procession was lengthened as it passed along the road and there was a large assemblage at the cemetery, where the service was conducted bv the Rev. S. Nixon, of Pukekohe. Besides relatives of the family, the two eldest boys and the eldest daughter were present at the interment. The undertaking arrangements were carried out by Messrs Quinn and Peoples, of Drury. At the Auckland Police Court on Monday the charge of murder was formally preferred against the widow, Mrs Amelia Perry. No evidence was taken and on the application of Chief Detecitve McMahon the accused was remanded until Monday next. The police are still active in prosecuting enquiries, but so far as is known no new developments have arisen. The baby and the two-year-old boy, who accompanied the mother to Auckland on her arrest on Sunday, have been placed in charge of the Salvation Army authorities, together with the four children next in age, who were taken on Monday to Auckland by Constable Watson, of Pukekohe. The two eldest boys remain at Rama Rama in the charge of Mrs W. Flay, their aunt, and another sister of the deceased, is providing a home for the eldest girl at her residence in Auckland.
