Wilson's record was perhaps the most meritorious one, as his "kills" «»u gained on the tint nomination, whereas Hughes mitscd his first bird in the same series and paying an extra fee for what it) technically knowu as a "star" for a miss of the first bird in the match then rattled off his kills. In a "tirst-out" handicap sweepstake, 28 competitors, J. Wright, Pukekohe, won with eight birds. The prize money for another " tirstout" handicap sweepstake, 29 competitors, was equally shared between L. P. Hughes, Auckland, G. L. Winger, Taumarunui, and Thomas Hedley, Huntly, who secured 20 birds each. J. Wright, Pukekohe, was again successful in a handicap long-shcot sweepstake, 10 competitors, securing three birds.
