TUAKAU
A meeting was held in the Public Hall on Friday last for the purpose of combining the various patriotic committees. After a long discussion on the subject the matter was deferred to a further meeting to be called after the Ladies' Guild had decided as to their action. At the meeting Mr G. P. Ewiog, of Whangarata, read a letter from Chaplain-Captain Angus McDonald, at preseut stationed at tbe New Zealand bopsital, Cairo. He made a strong request for funds to buy tobacco, stationery and other necessaties for the wounded. £SO was immediately lu'oscribed in the room for this purpose, and it was decided to make a house to house canvass for further subscriptions. The £SO was cabled lo Egpyt on Monday last, and further sums will be Bent on as they come to hand. The following subscriptions have been received for tbe local Wounded Soldiers' Fund, viz G. P. Ewing, Whangarata, £5 0s 6d; J. Fulton and W. J. Deeble, £5 each; Jas. Henderson, C. Finch, b. B. Free, W. H. Ncrthmorp, P. A. Rowe, J. Cruickshank, £3 3s each; A. Madill £3; G. Revell, £2 10s 6d; A. H. Tapper, R. W. Stewart, J. H. Craig, W. Stralian, £2 2s each; Paterson, l'ajlar, A. J. Prescott, W. Glasgow, W. L. Young, £1 Is each; P. Lewis P. Lapwood, D. Olgivie, W. Woodbridge, Alf. Turner, M. B. Bernard and C. McUahar, Hamilton, Onewhuro, £1 each Miss M. Simmons, E. Lapwood, M. Maloney, P. Osborne, L. Stevenson, 10s 6d each: J. English, loa; James Taylor, ss; Miss Molly Brown, C. Lindner, J, Wilson, 2s 6d each; P. Farrington, 2s. The name of a nephew of Mr H. A. Tapper appears amongst the latest list of wounded. The Hlintly Musical and (Jrches« tral Society will give a/concert in Tuakau on WtJnesjay, October 13th, in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, 'lnc concert will be followed by a ball, tbe music o bo supplied by the Huntly Orchestra.
