Fire Brigade Equipment.
i TO THE EDITOR.] Sir,—l notice in your recort of last week's meeting ot the Pukekohe Borough Council that authority was given for tenders to be called for the erection of a new Fire Brigade Station. Is'there any urgent necessity to incur an expenditure on a building that will not ere long fulfil requirements! When a loan scheme for Fire Biigade purposes is put before the ratepayers it should include provision for the purcnaße of a motor chemical engine, such as is now in general use in all municipalities of progressive leanings. As things are in Pukekohe, a very limited area ot the burough is served by the Brigade, but with a modern appliance in the form of a chemical fire engine the whole of the borough would receive attention. Surely the inability of the firemen, owing to water not being available, to act at laA Sunday's fire Bhows that their equipment should be augmented. Further, why sLould all the ratepayers contribute to the upkeep of the Brigade which exists only Jor the benefit of the town aroa? Instead of a building being erected to house existing belongings provision sHould be made for future (or rather, current) requirements.*—l am, etc.,
