BORING FOR WATER.
On Pukekohe Hill.
Council's Enterprise.
At the meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council hi Id on Wednesday, the Waterworks Committee reported that the Kev. H. Mason had located, what be considered, a large supply of water on the summit of Pukekohe Hill, on the reierovir section. They (the Committee) bad therefore authorised Mr G. Gilbert, boring; contractor, to put down a three-inch trial bore on the spat to endeavour to ascertain at what depth the water could be obtained. The work was to'be carried out by day work at the rate of £2 l'Js par day, or £2 5s per day it 2H full diys are worked, tha contractor to supply the plant and men to work the same and the Council to supply the necessary water and fuel. The cst was not to exceed £SO in the meantime, but at the same time the Committee recommended the Council to authorise an expenditure up to £l5O in all, if necessary. Cr Barter moved the adoption of the report. He mentioned that the boring operations had been started j that day and the contractor reached a :lepth of 70ft, after a day's work.
Cr Hubbard seconded, pointing out that knowledge of whether water was available or not on Pukekohe Hill would considerably affect any recommendations they might make in regard to dealirg with the town's water supply. The report was adopted and the committee was authorised to incur expenditure not exceeding £l5O in prospecting experiments.
