Judged by the recent series of prolonged sittings the meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council on Wednesday evening last occupied only a comparatively brief period. The start fixed tor seven o'clock was delayed for fully half an hour by reason cf the lack of the necessary quorum, and then owing to the reading of l.ngthy minutes business proper was not commenced till past 8 p.m., and the agenda was disposed of by 10 p.m. Beyond a bare and casual reference to loan proposals no forward movement was made in that respect. Cr Hubbard incidentally brought the matter forward by remarking in the coarse of a discussion on another matter that since provision for dealing witH King street ha.l at the previous meeting been omitted from the items scheduled for a proposed loan for roading purposes it would be useless under such conditions tu proceed with the projected loan The Mayor promptly intervened and ruled Cr Hubbard out of order, p. mtmg out that be was wandering from tbe actual point at issue. Nothing futther transpired. The probabiity, however, is that wben gome definite recommendation can be made on the water-supply question re-consideration will Lc given to the roading and sanitary problems. As regards water, there are n.teresting developments following on the "divining" experiments recently cariied out by the Rev. H. Mason. He located water in plenty in the immediate vicinity of the reservoir on Pukekohe Hill, the depth of "the find" being of course problematical. However, boring operations are arcady in progress, tbe Council having authorised an expenditure of not marc than £l5O for the purpose. li water is found to be procurable such will be an asset tu the town of priceless value, but sbuuld efforts be unsuc eessful, by reaton cf inordinate depth, the Council will still be able to credit themselves with the knowledge that the outlay was justified on account of possibilities. Practically the only other feature ol interest at Wednesday's meeting was Mr J. A. Comrie's resignation of his seat as a Councillor, neees-i----(altd Itv lill I'hangp of residence In Auckland.
