1 KILLED AT THE FRONT. 1 Newß wss received yesterday of the death from wounds of LaoceCorpo;al Deverttux, of the Auckland Infantry Battalion, son of Mr J. T. Devereaux, of Patumahoe. The decease J Lit with the Fifth Reinforcements, to which the late Captain Wilkinson whb attached, and ha was formerly in Captain Wilkinson's employ, and it is a etrange coincidence that the intimation that he had been wounded was received on the same day that Captain Wilkr.son'j death was announced. Lance-Corporal Devereuax was well-known in the Buckland and Karaka districts, where he had been employed on Messrs Yates ssed farm?. EX-RESIDENT'S DEATH. The death took place in Auckland on Wednesday laet of Mrs Agnes Finlay, widow of tne late Mr James Fir lay. The deceased lady, who had reached the advanced age ot 87 years, arrived in New Zealand from Canada ia 1868 and with he' husband took up fcer residence in the Patumahoe district. On Mr Fiulay's death some 13 years ago Mis Finlay removed to Taranaki. The funeral took place at the %lauku cemetery this afternoon. —«•
