WHANGARATA.
At the July meeting of the Farmers' Union Messrs J. Fulton, Johns and Grimshaw, were empannelled as a deputation to the Franklin County Council re the bad state of the Whangarata roads. The County chairman (Mr Flanagan), Councillors Wilcox and Woods and the County Engineer were authorised to visit Whangarata and inspect roads. These members were met at Tuakau station last week by Mr J. Fulton and were driven to his residence where luncheon was provided. After luncheon the party was joined by Messrs. W. Smeed, D. Fulton, G P. Ewing and J. D. Johns and were taken ovor the Whangarata district. The result of the visit is that for the first time the County Council's Surfameman is in the district and attending to the urgent needs of the local roads. Some of the ratepayers having offered to cart metal gratis, the Council intends, when weather permits, to do the necessary earthwork.
