SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT
The annual soiree and concert held in connection with St. Jamos' Sunday School was held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday last. The attendance, considering the state of the weather, was surprisingly good, and the function was altogether a great success. After a bountiful tea, presided over by the ladies of the charge, had be?n partaken of, a short address was delivered by the chairman, the Rev. Dawson Madill, of Papakuru. The superintendent of the Sunday School, in presenting tne prizes, disclosed a very healthy state of affairs in connection with Sunday School matters, and the treasurer, Mr Fleming, gave his annual report. The concert programme, which consisted of choru.se?, songs, recitations, pianol'.irte eolos and duets, action songs and a patriotic cantata, entitled "Flags cf the Nation," reflected the greatest credit on the organisers, and especially on Mrs Nixon, who was largely responsible for the excellent programme, as also for the staging and dress effects Some of these in the children's items, but more notably in the patriotic cantata, the star item of the night, were very striking.
