WAIUKU NEWS.

A pleasant rendezvous on Thursday evening last was found at the Pariah Hall on the occasion of tie usual monthly social organised for tbe parishioners of Holy Trinity Church. There was a good attendance. Pupils of tbe public school m charge of Miss Sanderson, were present and gave a line exhibition of flag drill. Other items included pianoforte solos by Mrs Selby, Mrs Maurice and Miss Linda Neil, and a pianoforte duet by Mrs J. Bent and Mra H. 0. Mellsop. Miss Swain contributed a song and the Rev. J. C. Fussell gave a recitation and a reading. Miss A. Woodward also contributed a reading. Mra J. Bent kindly officiated at ths piano. A dainty supper was handed round.

Matters in connection with the proposed library are developing to a satisfactory stage. The provisional executive committee of twelve have invited the public to attend a meeting with a view <>f forming an association, with the intention of registering it later, the scheme includes a library and waiting roam, where ladies may rest whilj their husbands are attending sales id the township. In accordance with the principle adopted in other towns, the present overhead telephone wires in Waiuku will be dismantled and a telephone cable will ba laid instead underground. Mr P. Cheeseman will cofiduct the operations, which will be caned cut by a t. legr*ph gang of five men, who recently arrived in tbe district.

Advice has been n-ceivoed that Staff-Sergeant-Major James Green Milne, formerly of Waiuku, but now a member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, was wounded in the foot during a recent engagement at Gallipoli. This makes the second time he has been wounded in the same limb while on active service. He was hrst rendered hors de combat during the South African war. At the time of existing he resided in Waiuku where he is wellknown as Staff -Sergeant-Major of the •3rd Auckland Mounted liifles and also as a member of the local Tennis Club. It was during his residence in Waiuku that he was married. Hi? wife and child are residing at Mount Eden.
