KARAKA ROAD BOARD.

Monthly Meeting. The regular monthly meeting of the atove Board was held on Saturday last. There were present: Messrs J. Batty chairman, J. tfchlaepfer, J. P. Kidd, G. C. Sutton and the clerk, Mr H. Glasson. A COMPLAINT. Mr Schlaepfer intimated that he noticed in the "Tmes" that there was a complaint as to a sharp corner on the Karaka side of tbe Hingaia bridge. He had haard two or three ratepayers mention the matter. Tbe chairman said that as soon as tbe Board was communicated with tbe corner would be attended

In reply to an enquiry made by Mr Sutton, the chairman stated that cot until the contractor gave the Board permission to use the bridge ould the approaches be attended to. THE NEW BRIDGES.

Ic was decirted that in view of the present state of affairs, consequent upon the war, that no function should be held in connection with the opening of the Hingaia and Whangamaire bridges. Members expressed their willingness, however, to donate subscriptions to one of the war funds, end the lolbvicg were accepted—Mr Batty, £5 sa; the Board's solicitor, £2 2s; Mr Schlaepfer, £2 2s; Mr Sutton, £2 2s; Mr Kidd, £2 2s. FAULTY CULVERT.

It was resolved on Mr Schlaepfer's suggestion to have a culvert on the Paerata Pukekohe rjad, which was backed up with water, attended to, Messrs Scblaeptcr and Sutton to attend to the work matter. NEW ROADS.

It was further decided that when a plan was submitted for proposed roads through the Helvetia Ostrich Farm, that members should inspect the roads. METALLING WORK.

It was agreed that the Paerata toad should be metalled as eooii as weather suited. REPORTS.

The chairman reported that he had interviewed the District Railway Enigneer in reference to the proposed erection of an overhead bridge at Crawford's corner, Paerata crossing, and was informed that Ihe Dspartmeiit waa willing to erect the bridge if th 3 Board secured and formed the approaches. With a view of obtaining the grades at the crossing for the Department he had arranged for Mr McArthur, the* Franklin County Council engineer, to take them. The chairman also reported that he had received from the Stati Advances Office the debentures and declaration forms for tin Board's loan of £3850 for the Hingaia and Whangamaire bridges, and that payment would be made on the receipt hy the Advances Office of the debentures satisfactorily executed.— Members expressed their pleasure with the good news, and the chairman was thanked for the time he bad spent in securing the money.—The chairman further reported that the Public Woiks Department had sanctioned the payment of the £IOO grant for the Paerata road.
