The Boy Scout movement in Waiuku gives every indication of being a great success, as the boys and their instructors are entering on to their duties with inthusiaam. Scoutmaster J. U. Stormy weather has prevailed during the past few days, but although the rain hss inconvenienced people who desired to get abiut it was much appreciated by those of the farmers who wanted moisture for thsir pastures. On account of tne rain a football match arranged for Thusday was postponed, as also was the concert to have been held on Thurdsay in aid of tbe Wounded Soldiers' Fund. At tb3 monthly m e'ing of the Waiuku branch of the Farmers' Union on Friday night, a letter was received from the secretary (Mr A. Scbmitt) of tbe Auckland Provincial Executive, stating that a complimentary luncheon and presentation would be tendered to the exprfsident, Major Luak, in Auckland on August lltb, and asking how manv members of the branch would be present. 'I ha president, Mr A. Hull, S3id it would be well for the branch to be represented a* they roust all recognise that the Major had done a lot for the Union. Eventually it was left with the secretary, Mr H. 0. Meilsop, to ascertain by August 4th tbe number of members of the local branch who woald be able to attend the luncheon. The almost incessant ram did not prevent a fair number attending pa Thursday night at the Public Hall, at which place an entertainment in aid of tbe Wounded Soldiera' Fund wai to have been held. "When the curtain went up, however, the interlocutor, Mr Rossiter, announced that it had been decided to postpone the entertainment to a future date. One of their principal performers was unfortunately absent, and on that account—more than on account of the weather—the performance would not take place that night, but on some night in the near future. Tbe tickets would be returned at the doors, so that they could be used on a future occasion. The audience sang tbe National Anthem, and Miss Ethel Rossiter contributed in a pleasing manner the patriotic aong, "Your King and Country Want You," the accompanimsnt being played by Mrs J. Bent Tbe audience then dispersed with many regrets at the postponement, but with hopes that on a luture occasion more favourable weather would be experienced.
