Tbe offer of a four-roomed house in Pukekche for the use of wounded Boldiers was received from Mr Daniel Goodwin at the meeting of tfce borough Council on Wednesday. It was decided that Mr Goodwin should be thanked for his offer, and should be informed that if occasion arose for tbe house to be used he would be communicated with.
An important 'clearing sale of live and dead tsock oa Mr A. G. C. Glass' farm at Te Kauwhata is to be carried vut on Friday next by the Farmers' Auctioneering Company, in conjunction with tbe New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Mr Glass has disposed of the property and has to give up possession on August Ist. For particulars see advt.
Acting as a deputation from tbe Fukekohe School Committee, the Kev. F. B. Dobson, and Mr F. Perkins waited on the Fukekohe Borough Council on Wednesday evening, and asked for the Council's support to the movement designed to secure the establishment of a High School for the Lower Waikato, to be situated at Fukekohe. A resolution was passed supporting the proposal, the Town Clerk being instructed to forward a copy of the motion to the Auckland Education Board.
The third meeting; of the Methodist Band of Hope was held iu the Church on Tuesday evening. Mr Pilkington presided over a very good attendance of members and friends. An excellent programme was rendered, as follows: Impromptu items on the be lis by a number of boys, led by Mr Souster; Bhort humorous recital?, Mr Souster; recitation, Mrs Feafce; re?itation, Frank l'earce; instrumental trio, Mr Mce, Master Mee arid Miss I'ilkinglon; recitation, Herbert Vant; violin solo, Nelson Mee; items on tbe bells, Mr Souster; recitation, Mr Soueter. Mr Souster •ilso gave the address. The meeting was an excellent one and the program me very enjoyable. Mr Usher thanked all who had assi ted in the programme.
Visions of discord and strife appeared on the horizon at Wednesday's meeting of the Fukekohe Borough Council, but the Ihreaatened breeze failed to materialise. Upon-the report of tte Works Committee being reached, Cr Hubbard, chairman of the Committee, rose and speaking with no little beat stated that he had received a letter from tbe Mayor over which he felt very sore and in regard to which his only duty would be to resign the chairmanship of the Committee. Cr Hubbard proceeded to produce the letter from his pocket an 3 opened it with a view of reading it to the Council. The Mayor thereupon s'ated that if there was any feeling in the matter he was quite willing that the letter shoull be read, but there bad been misunderetanding on hia part. Th? letter had been penned hastily and its wording was perhaps clumsy, and he assured Cr Hubbard that to offence was meant. Cr Hubbard aenpted the explanation and the incident was closed.
