At the meeting of the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce held ou Monday last a letter was read by the General Manager of the N.Z- Kailways stating that he could not accede to the Chamber's request for a travelling crane, for the purpose of dealing with heavy goods at the Pukekohe railway station, being installed as he did not consider that the number of heavy consignments warranted the expenditure. Various members spoke of the difficulties that now arose at the station through the absence of proper tackle for lifting weighty goods out of the trucks and the absurdity of the General Manager's contentiou was instanced by reference being made to the fact that a travelling crane had been provided at Tuakau, where the goods traffic was far less than at Pukekohe. It was decided that the position should be brought before tbe General Manager by the deputation that is to wait on him to ask for the second express trains to stop at Pukekohe.
