Waikato Dairy Company's Payments.
|TO THE EDITOR.! Sir, —I notj Mr Goodfillow'a letter in yeur issue ot the 9th ii<st in reply to my letter of the 29th ult., and I resent the statement that mv letter "is somewhat misleading." I simply quo'ed from his Company's accounts and from Mr Uoodfellow's speech, and stated that I could not make them agree. From his letter it now atpeirs that while he wi?s addresiing "his tupphers" on the ytar's business of the whole Compwy, he qujted advance prices paid for a particn oily (f that hjsiness. lie also states that "full details of all payments were pi iced before the suppliers at the annual oinner, etc." If a-, plainly they wet.: not pub lishcd and my letter dealt only with ;he leport ss published and the account?. Apparently is an excuse for this method of handling figures, ue fi.ii hid Ms lett r by stating "I wo <ld point cut that owing to the n cognised practice of competing c mpanie 3 , «lo invariably quote ti'Jir 'lop pi ice' -nd «'o cot mention 'average pricr,' it is necessary that our Company s;ouH elsi publish the t -p ;'iici p iJ fo. butter-fat in order tijbt farmers may make a comparison." I wi-h to say that, if he or any of your reai rs will reler io the reports of companies p.blished in the "iN.Z. IJaiiymai" of July, Aug.-s', S.p'emb r el Biq for many years ha and th y will find in marly ev.ry case the average price is quoted, the t tl qianti yof butter-fat purchased, trie amount paid fir same, and th> over-run are ttatcd, so it is ea<y to verify the average price, and, further, where different (rices are pail reference is made pointing out the same. Had such a cours; been foliowtd ii tins ca e, my Utter need not have appeared. 1 have yoir readers ti judge where the 'mi leading" came in.-I am, etc., BU ITER-FAT. 1 TO THE EDITOR. 1 Sir,— Dairy farmers in the Unper and Lower Waikato are indebted to Mr Ltwry fjr his excellent and conclusive letter which app.ared in your paper of Friday hit 1 alsi have had experience of supplying cream tj the Waikato Co-operative Dairy Company anl to the Dairy As ociatior, and after such experience I now supply the latter company with a ssnse of satisfaction. Mr Losry refers tj the Waikato Company's ingenious way cf sta irg thur"case. ' Possibly the New Zaalaad Dairy Associatioi miy not be as rgenious. but tiuir it items. ts are mere tuanesslik'l and conclu ive, and thtir metLods are satisfaito y. I supplied the Waikato Company in September, but only received 12Jd (?) per lb, yet the Company in question has circulated advertisements throughout our distiict tbat it paid 13|d for direct delivery to the factory, and the letter from the Secretary of the Company which appea:ed in your isjus of Wednesday last stated the difference between such delivery to the factory and ordinary delivery such as mine would be at £d. Thus the Waikato Company owes me Id (?) per lb upon my September supply, which sum I am forthwith claiming. My former experienca with this Company leads me to expect that payment will be reaisted until legal action is tiken, but taat ultimately the amount will ba paid inti Court as in other cases where legal aid wai scught. The principal point of interest in Mr Lowry's letter is the reference to over-run, the publication of which should be a statutory responsibility upon *ll dairy companies. Now tha question has been raised, 1 t ust the farmers will see that action to secure this ia taken.—l am, etc., T. LAWKENCF. Whangarata, July 12th, 1915.
