At the Pukekohe Police Court this morning, before Messrs Roadley and j Mathews, J.P.'e, a charge was laid against Samuel Caddy, farmer, of I Pukekohe, and David Leonard Ire- ; land and Robert Mitchell, farm ''■ labourers of having on June 26th I stolen 15 hedge plants, value 63 3d the property of the Rev. Father Molloy. The accused all pleaded ' guilty. The facts of the case, as ' related by Sergeant Cowan, were that the trio on their way home, ' under the influence of drink, on the evening in question up-rooted the ' shrubs from Father Molloy'B garden and deposited them in Caddy's garden, Caddy subsequently replanting them on his own premises. The police traced tne ahruhs to Caddy's possession, and although Caddy at first denied removing them the theft was admitted by the other two men, with the result that the three were taken into custody on S'aturday. A tine of £lO wa& imposed on Caddy, Ireland and ] Mitchell being each fined £2. A \ further charge against Caddy for j having sUen on May 30th a drum of oil, value 265, the property of William Wardleworth, was adjourned for hearing until the Magistrate's Court ou Thursday next. ! The loss of 1 the clock at the time of its dis- ' appcaraucu was reported to the! police, and the timepiece was found in Ireland's whare when he j was arrested ou the other cinrge. j
