WAIUKU.
LITLTfcJ GIRL LUST.
RECUVEREU UNEXPECTEDLY. A sensation was caused jn Waiuku on Thursday last when it became kmwn that a little girl named Annie Bregmen, eleven years of age, whose parents reside about a mile and a-half outisde the township. had been missing since the previous evenirg. All efforts to trace her were up till Thutsday afternoon fruitless. When it was realised that the child was misßing, Constable Fearnley, of Waiuku, was informed accordingly, and h° promptly prosecuted investigations. Failii.g to trace the child he returned to Waiuku ard organised a Bearch psrty. Notwithstanding the very heavy rain which prevailed throughout the afternoon theie was very scon a band of thirty strong who had volunterrtd to sccur the countryside. The climax, cr rather the anti-climax, of th 3 affair came when (he chili disclosed herself by running out uf a thed at the house of her grandmother, Mrs Murphy. Asked for explanations, she stated thit she had hidden there because she d d not want to go to the Waiuku school, and, having stayed away, she was afriad ta go homs because her father would be angry with her. Thus a pituation, which seemed to portend a tragedy had as its sequel a ridiculous farce—plus a drenching for thirty stalwart acouters.
BUCKLAND.
A HttKO'S DEATH
Quite a gloom has been cast over the district by the tad news of the death of Privates E. Hartiand and G. Gundry, who were killed in action at thu Dardanelles. Private Hartland was educated at the Auckland School, and by his quiet and kindly deposition won the esteem of rill who knew him.
Great syprcathy i 3 ielt for his relatives.
Private Gundry waß in the district for about five years, and was always ready with a helping hand where it was needed. He was an active msmber of the Church of Eogland, and was also a member ot the choir. Hh [right and cheerful manner will be missed by hh many friends. His parents reside in England.
In the report in our last issue of the meeting of the Buckland Parliamentary Union Mr H. H. D. Wily was stated to hive been elected "Speaker of the House," whereas that honour was conferred on Mrs Wily. The Buckland Lawn Tennis Club held their second eucbre social on Friday evening last, and the gathering proved very successful. There was a greater number of players present than at the preceding social, and everybody spent a most enjoyable evening.
