WAIROA ROAD BOARD.
Monthly Meeting. The usual monthly meeting: of the above authority wan held on Monday last at Clevedon. Present* Messrs A. D. Bell, chairman, Walsh, J. Luke, W. Duder, J. McConaughey and the clerk, Ml A. E. Bailey. THIRDS CLASSIFIED. Mr Martin Kelly, Whitford, wrote asking fur an explanation of the circumstances that made him pay 17s 2d per annum in addition ti the rates levied on hi* property by the Manukau County Council. As the Board had not lifted the thirds accrued from Mr Kelly's property, the clerk was instructed to convey that intormatim to him, and in addition to explain that he could obtain them by applying to the Lands Office. CONTROL OF DOMAIN. The following information, with reterence to an application made by the Board for the control of the Domain, after certain sections had been added thereto, wai sought by the Commissioner (f Crown Lands, viz. "As to the sections the Board proposes to adl t3 the D. main, and also an explication of the circumstances under which control was previously given up by a former Buard, and also an assurance that theee conditions no lonntr operate to prevent the Board resuming effective and continuous cottrol of the land. The rlerk was instructed to supply the i; formation aaked for. ROAD GRANT. A cr mm jnication was received frcm the Prime Minister, Right Hon. W. F. Massey. acknowledging the reecipt of an application for i grant nwa r ds ope.iing up the ro.d between the Maraetai wharf and Clevedon. He raplicd that he had communicated with toe Hon the Minuter of Public Works on the subjsct wilh the request that the application be noted ror consideration when the next estimates were being prepared.
DISPUTE SETILED. A turthsr complaint as to the filling in of a citch, adjacent to her property in Cosgrave's road, by the Board, was received from Mrs Edith Cosgrave, Auckland, wfco asked that it be either opened or that pipes be laid down in lieu thereof.
As Mr McLcllan, owning property in the vicintiy of tbc ditch, had agreed to open the ditch if requested to do so by the Board, it was resolved to ask him to comply with his promise, the Board to lay pipes in the ditch when opened. MEI'AL SUPPLY. A contract giving the Board control of Mr J. B. Burgoyne's qaarry and the metal cmtained therein for a period of three years free of cost, with the following proviso?, t'-at the Board should do the quarrying and that a royalty ot^ 1 threepence per yarJ be collected the Board on metal supplied to farmers and handed over to Mr Leonard LI. Burgoyne, the quarry tenant, was signed on behalf of the Board by the chairman. PERMISSION GRANTED. On Mr Duder's recommendation, premisßioD was granted Mr R. W. Hall to lay a threrquart>r inch trips across a gateway at the entrance to his property.
NEW HAIE. In accordince with notice of motion given by the chairman at the previous meeting of the Board, the general rate for the ensuing year was fixed at three farthings in tse £. GRANT APPLIED FOR. It was resolved, on the proposal of Mr McConaughey, to make application to the Government for a grant of £SO, £ for £, for stumping and diverting Hamlin road. THE "PUKEKOHE TIMES." "The Pukekohe Times" was unanimously appointed the official advertising medium t) the Board, rn«mbeis expressing appreciation of the accurate reportß of the Board's meetings that appeared in these columns. BELGIAN RELIEF FUND. It was agreed to donate a further sum ot £lO to the Belgian Relief Fuud, and to consider at a later date the donation uf an additional Fum. DAMAGED CULVERT. The mitter of arranai-g for plank- > in~, tu repair a wooden culvert on tne Maeiaitai r<ad which was in a dtmaged condition through a wash-ou', was left to Mr Luke to attend to UNLAWFUL REbTKAINT. Jnstruc'ions were Riv.n the dark to write a ratepayer, who bad "commandeered" a concrete pipe, one of two pipes whi-li were to have been laii down on the Maitaitai road.
STRAYING CATTLE. As compaints were received from ratepivers rending on the Maetaitai and Mara tn road, with reference to cattld straying on these roads, it was riended that the ranger should be intpneted to deal with the matter. DRAINAGE WOKK. The suggestion that buoys should bi placed in the Wairoa river, to assist navigation, waa reported on by Mr Walsh, who stated that the matter would come up for consideration at tbe annual mrcting of tha thvedon Steam Navigation Company. He hoped to be able to give a satisfactory report re the same at the following nweting of the Board. It waa decided to cjnvey the sympathies of the Board to Mr and Mrs J. A. Munro and family, whose gun Kobert William waa killed nl action at the Dardanelles,
