MERGER MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
—♦- Thursday, 10th June, 1915. (Before Mr F. V. Frazer, S.M.). JUDGMENT SUMMONS. la the judgment summons case of Valentine and Cu. v. William Montgomery, the debtor was ordered to pay £4 6s 6d forthwith, in default four days' impn-onmeni in Auckland prison, the warrant nut to issue betore the expiration of one week. A CKUELIY CASE. Wil .'am Miller, a cattle dealer, of Ti imarunui, was charged with havini , on the 2nd June last, cruellly ill-treated a number of bullocks by over-crowding them in a railway truck. Evidence for the prosecution was given by the stationmaster at Pokeno, Mr Kackley, of the Auckland Traffic Department, and Mr H. Alder, Inspector lor the Society lor the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It appeared that seven large working bullocks were placed in ine truck, which was barely large enough for six. The defendant and another cattle dealer swore that the bullocks were not overcrowded. The Magistrate said that the evidence for the prosecution was conclusive, and imposed a fine of £2 with £1 9s costs. A SERIOUS CHARGE. Percy Couplacd Trapp, a middleaged man, was charged with having indecently assaulted a little girl. After hearing the evidence, the Magistrate committed accused, who pleaded not guilty, to the Supreme Court for trial at the August sittings. Bail was fixci at £2OO.
