MERGER TOWN BOARD MEETING.

The second meeting of the Mercer Town Board was held last Thursday evening, wren the following m niters were in attendance, viz.: Messrs G. E. Morgcn (chairman), M. Gallery, C. Watkinson, is. Cartr and the clerk, Mr P. N. Kirg. INDEFINITE OWNERSHIP.

Mr C. House made application for a permit to erect a store shad onji site adjoining the southern end of the Mercer wharf. He offered to pay a nominal rental for the right and stated that he had had all titles searched ard found that the property was under the Board's jurisdiction.— The chairman stated that when the clerk received the application be, together with the clerk and two members of the Board, went iutc the matter but could not ti d out the Board's actual p:sition in connection with the property, so the clerk was instructed to write to the Minister of Internal Affairs, which he bad done, tie proposed that pending a reply to the dark's letter the application be rectived, and when the informtion required was to hand that the matter be dealt with.— Mr Watkirißoa stated that he ha:i communicated with the Railway Department and had been informed tbat the Department had no jurisdiction over the site.—TLe chairman's proposition was adopted.

The chairman mentioned that another matter on which he was in doubt was the t'ite on which the Waikato Co-operative Dairy Company's factory was built, and until he obtained further information he could not say who were the person or persons who had jurisdiction over that property. CHANGED HANDS.

Mr Watkinson mentioned two sections No. 6 and 7, situated near the railway station from which the Board -was not deriving rates. Tbey sppeared on the rata book in the name of Mr G. Walden, but they had long since changed hands, the owner being Mr G. G. Waltare.—The clerk intimated bis intention of placing the rata tock before members, at a near date, for their perusal.

THE PUBLIC HALL. The Deputy Public Trustee made enquiry as to the position in regard to the Mercer Town Hall. He said that the Public Trustee had written to him complaining of the delay in settlement. He desired to koew whether he had to look to the County Council for payment as if so he would make a demand on them.

The clerk was instructed to advise the Deputy Public Trust.e to collect the amount due from the Franklin County Council, the Council to deduct the amount from monies due by them to the Board. DIFFICULTIES OF FINANCE. Ab the Board was not yet in a financial position to pay several creditors and as the Franklin County Council owed money to the Board, the clerk was instructed to refer creditors to the Council for payment of their accounts, the monies paid out on behalf of the Board by the Council to be deducted by the Council from the monies, owing to the Board. PUBLIC LIGHTING,

Owing to replies being received to tbe clerk's enquires re lamp posts and standards, to the effect that the different business firms applied to did not have either in stock, the chairman proposed that the matter be left in abeyance. He stated that lamps were necessary for erection at the wharf, the railway croseing and in front of the Public Hall. COMFORTS FOR THE TROOPS. A circular lett.r inviting assistance towards providing socks for members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force at present in Egypt was received from the Auckland Patriotic League. All the members agreed that the Board should act in the matter, acd after a lengthy discussion it was decided to call a public meeting for the 31st inst., the ladies to be specially invited to attend.
