OTAUA DRAINAGE BOARD.
The Otaua Drainage Board meeting, held last Thursday, was attended by Messrs W. L. West (chairman), H. 0. Mellsop, K. Hull, W. J. Wngbt and P. G. Deed.
All works were reported as completed and accounts for £6 were passed fit payment. The question of rates for the ensuing year was discussed, and it was pointed out that a section of the ratepayers near the river were contributing more than they should in regard to the value of the work dime. As the outcome, the clerk was asked to furnish information to enable sub-division to be arranged with a differential rate. Tha chairman pointed out that the Board's finances were in a better position than the previous year, the overdraft having been reduced by ii'tv p£r cent., and a smaller rate would be suliicient to meet requirements, Uther members agreed with this view. It was reported that r.o interest had been takrn in the petition circulated requesting an alteration in the taxation from capital to unimproved value.
The Board decided to strike a small rate to defray the expenses of faction of trustees in November n?x-.
