MERCER MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Thursday, May 13th. (Before Mr F. V. Frazer, S. M.). CRUELTY TO A GOOSE. Edward Clara was charged tfaat he did at Mercer, on Bth April, 1915, cruelly ill-treat a goDse by setting a dog to worry it. —Henry Alder, Inspector for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, gave evidence in support of the charge. —The defendant denied that he had set the dog on to the goose, and a witness, who had plucked the bird, stated that it was not bruised,—The Magistra'e aaid that it was cruel to set a dog on to worry a goose, and he was satisfied that the defendant had done so, though fortunately for him the bird had not been damaged. The defendant was convicted and fined £2 and 7s cost. CIVIL CASES. Judgment tor nlaintiffs, by default for th 3 under-mentioned sums, was entered up:—Valentine and Co. v. H. Kobb, £lB t)8 lOd, with £2 15s coste; Fulham and Bcgbi3 v. H. L. Walters, £1 14s 6d, with £1 2s costs.
A dete-jded claim of £i) 14a od, arising out "of a complicated pig transaction, n which the parties were Maoris, resulted in judgment being given for the plaintiff for £1 5s and lis co3ts. The plaintiff, Hare Mason, appeared ill person, and the defendant, Ceorge Taka, was represented by Mr I*. B. Fitzherbert. In the judgment summons case of C. Roose, junr., v. I'uka, an order was made for payment of .£6 17a at the rate of 10s a month, io default seven days' imprisonment in Auckland prison.
