The Rev. S. Nixon, of Pukekohe, has been granted three munths' leave of absence, on account of illhealth, by the Auckland Presbytery.

In a replace advt. in this issue Messrs Cooper and Curd, proprietors of the Franklin Carriage and Motor Factory, Pukekohe, call attention to various vehicles available for purchase at their establishment.

A meeting of subscribers re the employment of a night watchman for Pukekohe is to be held on Monday afternoon next at three o'clock, in the Borough Council Chambers, for the purpose of making arrangements for the collection of levies.

Fall particulars of the live and dead stock to be sold by Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons at Messrs Mason and Roberts' clearance sale on their farm at Pukekohe Bill on the 26th inst. will be found in our advertising columns. Ibe operation performed on the Kev. G. Frost last week was of a more serious nature than had been anticipated, internal complications having arisen. We are glad, however, to hear that the patient is making steady progress towards recovery. The annual meeting of the Pukekohe Chambei of Commerce is to be held on Monday evening next in the Borough Council Chambers, when a fall attendance ot members ard intending members is requested. Membership is not confined to traders but is open to all residents who desire to forward the advancement of the district.

Steps are to be taken to secure lor the Franklin Council power to act as a registration authority for motor cars. Hitherto revenue derived from that source has gone to Auckland as the registration centre for the district, but at yesterday's meeting of the Franklin County Council Cr Lyons gave notice of his intention to move at the next meeting that the Council should acquire registration powers. A concert, combined with a picture programme, will be given in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, on Wednesday, tin 26th insr., when half the gross profits will be handed over to the Pukekohe Town Band. The cordial support of the local public is solicited, the Band bsing an organisation that thoroughly deserves encouragement and assistance from the residents of the town and district.

At the meeting of the Franklin County Council yesterday, Mr K. W. Fisher, assistant County engineer, tendered the resignation of bis appointment. He had, he stated, Becured the post of Roads and Bridges Inspector to the Taranaki County Council.—Congratulations were tendered to Mr Fisher on bis new appointment and appreciation of his services to the County were ordered to bs recorded in written form Jur future use, if wanted.

At yesterday's meeting of the Franklin County Council Cr Henry suggested that if a cottage hospital was established for the district the cost of the same wouldjresult in a saving as compared with the contribution payable to the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. He proposed that a return should be compiled showing the amount expended for two or three years past on indigent cases from the County treated at the Auckland Hospital and also the amount on charitable aid given. The motion was agreed to. The Patriotic League of the Military Group No. 4, which includes this district, has issued from headquarters at Hamilton a stirring appeal for more recruits for service at the front. New Zealand is still a long way behind the Motherland. On a population basis t>he has only one man with the colours for every six who have gone from Great Britain. The Mayor of Pukekohe and chairman of the County Council have been requested to invite the residents of the Borough and County to a meeting to consider the best way ot promoting enrolment of our young men.
