Engineer's Report.

The County Engineer (Mr J. F. McArthur) reported as follows : CONTRACTS. Tendors were invited and received for forming a portion of Pollok wharf approach, viz.:—Jas McEwin £52, Gloeson and Jones £73, E. McPike £64. I would recommend that the tender of Mr J. McEwin be accepted. A contract was let under the Government tyrant for the Great Sou th road to Mr C. Apploby for tho supply and delivery of 150 cubic yards of spawls, the price being 8s per cubic yard. STONE-CRUSHING PLANT. During the four weeks ended the Bth in&t. the plant has been engaged breaking on the Waiuku-Aka Aka road at Hoa-

king's corner, WaiuVu - Druvy road at "Kings," Waiuku-Puke-kohe road at Waitangi school, W«i-uku-Pukekoho mad at Ti Ti Farm. Union road and Pukekohe-Putu-makoe road near springs. The plant is at present engaged on the last-named road, and when finished it will be shifting to Tuakau Beach road, there being 500 cubic yards of stone stacked ready for crushing. This expenditure will be covered by a Government grant. NECESSARY WORKS.

I received instructions from your chairman to put in hand some urgently required works, arrangements were mado as regards the crushing of stone and the following carting contracts were arrauged : Carting 64 cubic vn-Js of broken metal to Sheridan's, Patumahoe road, J. Wishart 2s per yard ; carting 150 cubic yards of broken

metal on to Pukekohe-Waiuku road at Ti Ti Farm, J. Wishait 2s per yard ; carting 160 cubic yards of broken metal on to PukekoheWaiuku road (Union Eoad), J. Wishart 2s per vard ; carting 50 cubic yards of broken metal on Patumahoe to Mauku road, W. McFadden 3s per yard ; carting and spreading 200 cubic yards of broken metal on to PukekoheWaiuku road between Borough Boundary and McNally's corner, J. McCann os. Work has also been started repairing that portion of the Hunua road between Papakura Town Boundary and Concrete bridge. Arrangements have been made with Mr Parry to cart the 170 cubic yards of broken metal at Waitangi School for repairs to the WaiukuPukekohe road between town boundary and Waitangi Hill the price per yard being 2s 6d. Arrangements have also been made to start at the beginning of nest week works under the available grant for scarifying that portion of the Great South Boad between Runciman and the Pukekohe road; the additional metal and stone required to put on the road is ready at hand. GOVERNMENT GRANTS.

Sicca last meeting of your Council proposals have b9en forwarded for works under grants, as follows . Great South road (Drury to Mercer;, Needles wharf (Waiuku riding), Taurangaruru top road (Waipipi riding, Harvey's corner to Lee's gully (Awhitu riding), BonibayAraiimu road (Drury riding) Authority has been received from the Public Works Department enabling your Council to undertake the w°orks as laid out on the Koheroa road and Carey's farm to Pope's corner road. TEEES AT PUNI. Arrangements were made with the ownor of the land opposite Puni store to cut all dangerous tops off trees. This has since been done. Eegarding the overhanging trees at Puni school a letter has been forwarded to the Education Board asking that the trees be cut and trimmed.
