Papakura Matters.

I TO THE EDITOR.]

Sir,—There has been a good deal of correspondence in connection with our local politics lately in your columns, and I would ask space for a few lines. In connection with Road Board matters it it not very becoming to pin-prick and rend the Board for everything. I shall not do so. Ihe very great improvements being made to the South Koal are giving great satisfaction, with the exception of a ridge that will remain at the church end, but could be modified while the appliances are on the road at a minimum of expense, and if not done now will not be cone. I would suggest also that the Hoard should take into consideration the reusability <T scarifying a three or four foot track on the bank that girds the beach, from the rocks round to Elliott street at iti abutment. At preßent no one can enjoy the pleasure of a walk thai way. We want more lamps, for the winter is coining. Those we have are satisfactory and inexpensive. We want our footpaths dressed early and with scoria ash, not rocks. Jt is a question of money certainly, to manage these things, but our member for finance can surely find a way. This and previous Beards have done great work, and the heavy part of street making is ever, the full benetit of which will not be seen or felt till the metal ia put on, which will come sooner or later. But that being the state of affairs, Mr Editor, fjr goodness sake we want the members now to titivate the place up a bit. That will certainly cost very little. With regard to tennis and bowls, we have a tennis court in one place, about four hundred yards away a bowling green; another bowling green in courte of formation 20 minutes walk from the former, whilst we have the village green in the centre of the town, unused, unsightly, wherein might be formed if the townsmen will unite, courts for basketball and croquet in addition to the former. —I am, etc, PERMANENT RESIDENT. Papakura, 16'.h M3rch, 1915, [TO THE EDITOR. 1 , Sir,—Your correspondent "Papa kura Ratepayer" has evidently little to do when he finds time to charga one of our Town Board members with neglect of cuty. Tha gentleman referred to is one ofgour most painstaking Board members, and generally bear 3 the brunt of the abuse of the never-to-be-satisfi d ratepayars. The "board" in question was placed on tha footpath to cover rough metal wricb had been rilled in to make a crossing into the pfoperty from which the board or hoarding bad been removed. As for the naila ready to tear the dresses, etc., your correspondent must have dreamt this, as there wa? not a nail in sight. Ii regard to the latter part of "Pap&kura Ratepayer's" letter, the muchabused member could with confidence resign his seat and contest it successfully against all-comer*. — I am, etc., RATEPAYER No. 2. Papakura, 17th March, 1915.
