MR MASSEY'S VISIT.

Despite pressure of official business, the cares of which are all tha more exacting by reason of the war and the part New Zealand is taking in defence of the Butish Empire, the Prime Minister (Mr Massey) found time last week to pay a fleeting visit to his costituency, the Franklin Electorate. Leaving Wellington on the Sunday evening he opened the new Post Office at Papatoetoe on the Monday afternoon, performed a similar ceremony at Bombay on Tuesday morning, laid the foundation of the New Zealand Dairy Association's new butter factorry at. Waiuku the same afternoon ar-d was entertained at dinner in the evening in his capacity as member for the district at Waiuku by the local branch of the Reform League prior to leaving Pukekuhe by the night express for Wellington. That Ministerial office is no sinecure was proved bv the fact that in his abstnee from Wellington for a little under three days Mr Massey spent two nights in the train and was always in touch by means of telegrams with current events both of imperial and dominion [order. Notwithstanding arduous ard strenuous duties Mr Massey looked the picture of hsaljh, and his customary jovial and gocd-humoured nature was even more pronounced than usual OU acquaintanceships were resumed, many new friendships wtre made, and with everyone with whom he came in contact, whether a frieLd or opponent in politics, Mr Massey's able and efficient control of the affairs of the Dominion in a period that naturally was attended with anxiety and extreme responsibility was the subject uf general congratulation.
