THE PUKEKOHE SHOW.

Starting just thirty yeais ago under more or less humble circumstances the rise and progress of the Franklin Agricultural and I'astoral S:ciety has been eminently pronounced until this year, despite adverse war conditions and the trials and difficulties farmers have had to contend with by reason of the prolonged drought, all past records concerning numbers and entries have easily been left behind, and the Show in progress to-day and tomorrow can justly be held to more than favourably compare with any similar country fixture, not only in the Auckland province but probably throughout the Dominion. Speaking both without prejudice and without any desire to unduly praise the Franklin Show, many visitirg agricultural experts were heard this morning to express the opinion that the stock on which tu-day the judges have to make their awards are of such merit that they wculd hold their own anywhere in New Zealand, and further highly gratifying remarks were made that apart from entries from a distance the local exhibits ranked eo high in quality. Having regard to the fact that the Show provides the best possible advertisement for the district the Fianklin A. and I*. Society deserves free and cordial support from the neighbouring settlers. Launchingout has always attendant financial obligations, but the present showground has been found of too small dimensions for up-to-date requirements. Relying on ways and means being forthcoming from the residents of Franklin County, the Society has accordingly acquired a commodious property in close proximity to Pukekohe railway station, which it is hoped will be ready for occupation a year hence, In the meantime the Society makes an appeal to the general public to aid them in their efforts, and we have little doubt that the response to the appeal will be generous and will form a fitting and well-deserved recognition of the untiring efforts of the Society's Executive to further th 9 interests of the district in every possible way.
