DISTRICT NEWS.

POKENO. A nasty accident took place on Monday last, but fortunately without any serious results. Whilst Mr S. Holland, employed by Messrs Friedlander Bros., of the Surrey Farm, was engaged in carting chaff from the railway station the wheels of the wag?on skidded into the water tabic whilst descending creamery hill, with the result that the waggon overturned. Mr Holland was fortunately pitched clear. In a very short time three or four neighbours came to his assistance, and helped to right the waggon and put the load on again. It is about time that the County Council did something to the hill, as several accidents have occurred there. The water tables are getting lou deep, and the centre of the metal too much rounded up.

A large and reprepentative Tiecting of Pokeno settlers assembled in the Pokeno Public Hall on Tues day eveniog to hear the view? of Mr Kowen, the Government Fields Inspector, on the rabbit pest question and the methods to be adjtped to cope with this growing nuisance.
