OTAU.
Visit of inspection to the Maun--v-gatawhiri watershed was paid on Tuesday by the Mayor of Onehunga, Mr J. Rowe, and members of the Council. There is a proTioaal under consideration to utilise the waters of the Maungatawhiri river for the conservation of a water supply for Onehuuga, and Mr H. H. Metcalfe, C.E., has given an opinion that 8,000,000 gallons daiU could be made available by gravitation. The One- ' tunga Council has in mind a site w here the river might be tapped in the Otau district, where there exists an area of 833 acres of forest reserve. 'The scheme in view is one which wo ild provide a large district with water in addition to the Onehunga borough, at a cost of about £200,000. As a result of yesterday's visit to the g ite the members of the Council, being satisfied that an ample supply can be procured from this source, decided that a survey should be made and a full report should be submitted by experts. Both are expected to be available iu about a month.
