♦ ' At the Pukekohe Magistrate's Court, held yesterday, land agency licenses were granted to Messrs W. Koulston, H. Dell and Son,. F. E. Simpson, C. K. Lawn? and J. T. Stembridge. Mr W. Adams has disposed of his 92 acre farm at Puni to Messrs J. McClewaa and E. J. Adams, the prca paid being at the rate of £4O per acre.

The Borough Council's steam toller, with scarifier attached, is at present at work in King street. The- surface of the road is being rolled level and the metal thrown b3ing top-dressed with sea-shell screenings.

The Fukekohe Methodist Circuit is employing during the vacation a student from the Methodist Theological College, Remuera. Mr E. E. Page will preach on Sunday at Pukekohe 11 a.nr., Mauku 2.45 p.m., and Mendersm's at 7 p.m. The following pupils of the Pukekohe District High School passed the Public Service entrance examination and satisfied the pass requirements for senior free places, viz., Frances Rose Bycroft, Clara Delaney, Eileen Myra Frost, Thomas L. Wright and Sybil Margaret Zinzan.

Friday next (Anniversary Day) will be observed as a public holiday in Pukekohe and arrangements are being made for Thursday to be the late shopping evening, when business houses will remain open as is usually the case on Friday night. Messrs J. T. Stembridge and Co. held the first of their weekly auctions at their new auction mart to-day and the proceedings passed off most satisfactorily. For next week's sale, which will take place on Thursday in consequence of Friday (Anniversay Day) being a public holiday, another good entry of produce, goods, and poultry for sale has been secured.

Tenders are invited, per the medium of our advertising columns, for the erection by the New Zealand Dairy Association of a butter factory at Waiuku. Messrs Daniell and Cray, of Hamilton, are the architects. When finished, the factory promises to be one of the largest and most complete in the Dominion Alternative tenders for the erection of the building in concrete and wood are invited. Mr H. E. Pacey, general manager nf the Association, states that the proposed factory will overlook the Waiuku Estuary, and will be built upon an ideal Bite when which offers unusual advantages in the way of water tupply and drainage facilities. The floor space of the factory will comprise nearly 10,000 square feet, in addition to a substantial power block, which will be detached from the main building

The annual meeting of subscribers of the Pukekohe Library is to be held on Thursday next iu the Library at 8 p.m.

At the Premier Hall to-morrow night the Lyceum management will screen a late war topical showing the evacuation of Ghent and Ostend. Also Mr Jus. McKay will sing " Soldiers." Under the Education Act that came into force at the beginning of this year, school committees may, from time to time, establish savings banks for the use of children attending the schools. People who state that the Waiuku district is not suitable for growing apricots are quite in error A lovely sample of locally-grown fruit of this kind was brought to our office a few days ago by Mr John Barriball. The fruit was not only juicy and of good flavour, but they were quite the largest apricots we have seen.

At the Adelaide show last month a sample of ensilage was exhibited in good succulent condition, despite the fact that it was 20 years old. It was composed of oats and barley, and had been pitted by a Strathalbyn farmer in 1894. This is, of course, not a record in the matter oiage of ensilage, but it serves to emphasise how the plethoric growths of years of plenty can be kept indefinitely for relief in such a year as 1914. Some unwiße week end celebrations ei gaged the attention of a J.P.'s Court in Pukekohe on Monday. A would-bf. pugilist, *ho on Saturday night endeavoured to prove the superiority of the white man over the native race, was convicted and discharged for a breach of the peace, and two railway labourers, whoße libations resulted in disorderly conduct, were called upon to pay a fine of 20s in respect of their errant ways.
