RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL.
At the meeting of tha Raglan County Council, held at Raglan on Monday, the following business of interest to the Onewhero Hiding ratepayers was transacted:— In regard to the Tuakau Road the Council decided to enquire as to what amount it would be expected to contribute towards the work before appointing representatives to the conference proposed by the Franklin County Council.
The riding nvmber was authorised to take action in regard to a complaint from Mr Pellow regarding the stray cattle nuisance, it Leicg explained that he could appoint a ranger if necesary. Leave was granted to the County Engineer tu attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers, to be held in Duntdin in March, the Council to pay his expenses. An application from the Huntly West bran:h of the Farmers' Union for the erection of saleyards at Huntly was not ente:tamed.
The treasurer's siatement showed that the Onewhero riding was £798 6s 3d in debit, while the whole of the general rate if the riding, £921 Os 3d, had been collected. The ridng's loan account is £lO 5s 7d in credit, and/the Wairamarfcma loan account is also in credit £169 Os 7d. Of the Tuakau-Raglan grant of £ISOO (£ for £), £1340 4s lOd had been expended to date; £1325 143 lid had been received from the treasury, £159 15s 2d being still available for the work. Of Box's road grant of £39, £9 8s lOd was due lrom the Treasury, £4 5s lid being still available. On the 15th Januaiy the total amount of European rates, general and special, outstanding over the whole County was £92 14s lid. Of this amount the main portion would be collected within the next fortnight and the rest would be sued for. It these amounts are collected before 31st March it will be the seventh consecutive year in which all European rates have been raised. Only £4O 18s had been collected of native rates out of a total of £1146 16a 2d, while for the previous jear £IOO9 15a 4d was Btill outstanding under this head. The clerk was complimented on his success in collecting the European rates, and regret was expressed that machinery did not exist whereby the native rates could be as effectively dealt with.
The following accounts on account of the riding were passed:—D. A. Moore £l, T. Speedy £l4 18s 6c<, C. Aislabie £1 13s 9d, E Swann £2, G. Randell £5 17s, Porter and Co. £1 15s Bd, Green and Co. £1 8s 3d, E. Abbott £1 7s, A. Applebee and patty £2l 15s 4d, J. Cummiugß £5 12a 6d, Taylor and party £7 19s lid, Sampson Bros. £2 14s 9d.
Cr Moore was granted authority to spend £2O on Nolan's road, £7 on Rutherford's road; to employ!;, a surfaceman to keep the formed portion of the Wairamarama road in good repair; ard U expend £lO from the loan fund in clearing filijs lrom the Klondyke road. With regard to the reserve, he stated that they had set up a committer, but it was agieed to leave the reserve vested in the Council until such time as the proposed Domain Bnard was constituted. Cr Moore also intimated nis intention of applving for a grant for the Kauri road when the opportunity presented itself and in the meantime asked for authority to expend £5 in patching the worst portions.—This was granted. The clrtk applied for leave of absence for three months during the winter months ia order to visit Australia.—Granted on full pay.
