HEALTH OFFICER'S COM-

PLAINTS

The District Health Officer advised that an inspection of premises in the town showed that the method of drainage and disposal of waste water from houses was unsanitary and unsatisfactory. A . drain on premises occupi.d by Mr Leach snd owned by Mr H. Barnaby was fiund to be full ot filthy water owing to its iriegular surface. The water channels on certain streets were in a very ursanitary condition, as waste water was allowed to discharge into tfcem. Owing to the density of the pouplation in that part of tte township the present condition was certainly a menace to the public health. The attention ot the Beard was directed to the necessity for steps to be taken for the improvement of the drainage and sanitary condition of the township. It was dtcided to draw the attention of the owner of the premises to the Department's letter. MISCELLANEOUS. It was decided to have the dilapidated crossing in front of Wallace and Co.'s premises removed. It was agreed to record in the minutes that the engineer had made a satisfactory arrangement wilh Messrs Orr and Chapman regarding permanent levels where they ueie building business premises. Re a complaint from the Anglican Vestry 2S to the removal of an embankment on the Quarry road, Mr Walters wa3 deputed to deal with the matter.

Various questions were dealt with by the Board's consulting engineer, Mr Lcckie Cannon, who waa in attendance, and information was supplied to the members. The payment of accounts was discussed, and ic was decided to open a bank account with a sum uf £8 received for rent?.
