Pukekohe's Water Supply.

| TO THE EDITOR.! Sir,—The leader appearing in your issue of Decembor 29th, 1914, is very misleading to the public, as it only gives pirt of Mr Gannon's report on the waterworks question. In Mr Gannon's letter to tho Council, dated December 14th, 1914, in which he enclosed his report, he made it very clear that the construction of u now reservoir at a lower level than the .present one is absolutely necessary immediately. Of course Mr Gannon's report is for a comprehensive scheme costing a lot of money, but the Council considered tha 1 : the time was not ripe to go in for tho whole scheme, and it was decided on my motion to take a poll for a portion of the scheme as drawn lip by the engineer. By doing this work at once it will in no way interfere with Mr Gannon's scheme, and I can asm re you that it will be a grea* relief to the Council and its staft to know that there is not the constant fear of the ever taxed machinery giving way any moment, thus leaving the town without any wa f er, which might under the present conditions occur at any time. I would strongly recommend all thinking ratepayers to support this small loan. In the report that appeared in your paper of December 24th, under the heading of "Waterworks Committee Report," I would like to point out that the report was nst adopted by the Council, but was deferred for further consideration. I think before the report is confirmed by the Council it will require a lot of amending a 9 regards the charges; in any case the ratepayers can rest assured that their interests will be carefully safeguarded.—l am, etc, C. K. LAWRIE, Mayor.

[The portion of Mr Gannon's report referred to in the foregoing letter as not having been published in these colunius was stated to be of a confidential nature, and was not read at the Council meeting. Consequently it was not available for publication.—Editor, Pukekohe Times.] .
