PUKEKOHE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Monthly Meeting
At the usual monthly meeting ol the Pukekohe Borough Council, which was held on Friday evening last, there wsre present:—His Worship the Mayor (Mr C. K. Lawrie), Crs J. Beatty, K. Bilkey, J. A. Comrie, 0. R. Hamilton, F. Hubbard, T. B. Hurley, R. H. McGough and J. I'ollock. CORRESPONDENCE.
Mr J. Roger, Pukekobe, applying for permission to grsze a cow in the Uomaia.—Cf Pollock proposed that the matter be left to the Domain Committee with power to act. Cr Hamilton seconded. The proposal was carried. Mr W. Mills applied for a permit to reconstruct a shed in Tobin street into a dwelling house. He stated in his application that the building in its present state was of no value to him, and be asked that auth)rity be given him straightaway to enable him tj proceed with the rebuilding of the shed. —A proposal of Cr Comrie's that the application be granted was agreed to.
KING SIREET. It was decided that King street be scarified, and a thin coating of metal be put on where necessary, also that it be top-dressed with shingle and four permanent crossings be constructed in the street.
WATEK CHARGES. Cr Hubbard moved, in accordance with notice of motion, ihat the resolution re water charges tor consumers outside the Town Boatd area be rescinded, and that the WaterWorks Committee and the mover again go into the matter of charges. Cr Hamilton seconded.
Tha proposal was carried. It was decided that Cr Hubbard's tame be added to the Waterworks Committee.
A CLOSED ROAD.
The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the Kailway Department and ask on what terms they would let the Council have the road which the Department had closed (continuation of trankiin Road) three years ago when alterations were being made to the railway line near the railway station.
THE CEMETERY. The Mayor proposed that in addition to the three office plans of the local cemetery, which show the various sections laid aside tor the different denominations, as is at present in vogue, that one large plan be made fur use at the cemetery. Cr Bilkey seconded, and the resolution was agreed to. Cr Bilkey suggested that the cemetery should be handed over gratis for three years to a man whom he knew was prepared to piough it. He considered that it would be the meana of eradicating the wild daisies that bad over-run the cemetery. —A proposal of Cr Comrie's, that the Cemetery Committee be given power to act, was seconded by Cr Hubbard, and carried.
MISCELLANEOUS. To allow the Council to lease the water reierve, Cr Hubbard moved that the clerk be instructed to enquire whether the Council was gazetted a Domain Board. If not, that the Council take steps to become gazetted.—Cr Hamilton seconded—Carried.
In regard to some 40 or 50 yards of metal that was offered for sale to the Council by Cr Bilkey, on behalf of a Mr J. McCormick, it was decided that the matter be left to the foreman and Chairman of the Works Committee to deal with.
A propoasl ot Cr Comrie's, that authority be given for the taking of permanent levels of roads in the Pukekobe borough, lapsed for the want of a seconder. It was decided that the next meeting of the Council should be held on the 16th December.
PROPOSED ROAD IMPROVE MENT.
With the idea of making a better approach to Roulston-Berriman road, Cr Hubbard moved, and Cr McUough seconded, that the Mayor and Cr Comrie wait on Dr Wake and see what terms he would sell a cornet of his property near the railway station to the Council. It was decided to inform the Railway Department of the extra work the Council intended doing on Roulston-Berriman road and also to ask the Department on that account to meet the Council in the difference between the amount offered by them, £ll7, for the shifting back of the road and the amount asked for, £l6O, by the Council.
FINANCE. Accounts totalling £750 were passed for payment.
A special meeting of the Pukekohe Rod and Gun Club was held In the Pukekohe Hotel on Satuiday evening, when the following members attended:— Messrs J. Kennelly (presiding), J. Fausett. J. Reynolds, W. Wilson, W. McNallv, A. Vujucich, R. Fitness. J. Wright, .1. Blake and K. McGough. It wa* decided to challenge the Karangahake Club for the Colonial Ammunition Company' 3 Cup, to be shot for on the 29th December, at Karangahake, and it was also arranged to hold a practice at the range, Mr Kennedy's paddock, at 2 p.m. ou Saturday next.
