THE RIGHT HON. W. F. MASSEY, PREMIER OF NEW ZEALAND ON NATIONAL PROHIBITION Christchurch, June <>th, I'M t. '' TJic financial aspect of the case was worthy of \ ery serious consideration. It national prohibition were carried, it would make a very great difference to the financial arrangement* of the country. At the present time the revenue from ako holie liquors was about ,£9OO,UOt) annually, liven it prohibition were carried, this amount could not be done without. It would hare to be collected somehow or other. There must be an increase In taxation, either direct 01 indirect. Of course, it would be for Parliament to say how It should be got. Then the people engaged in the trade had to be considered. Whatever they might think of the question, thc\ must be fair to those who had capital invested in business, and they must give time to those employed in it to find other work. Surely these people were worth consideration." (Extract from Otago Daily Times, Bth June, 1914.)
