Anniversary Concert.
In connection with the Wesley Church anniversary, celebrated last Sunday, a concert was held in the Waiuku 21all on Monday pvening. Theie was a fairly good audience. Rev. J. A. Cable presided. 1 lie hall had besn prettily decorated for the occasion. After an opening item by the Waiuku orchestra, the chairman pointed out that were celebratirg their 313t anniversary in Waiuku, although he believed the old church was built about 50 years ago. The year just closed had been one , of progress, and they had much to be thankful for in regard to the way they had progressed both financially and spiritually. He instanced the increase of membership and the various improvements effected, including the erection of a retaining wall in front of the church, which was a great improvement. There had also been £ll2 subscribed for other buildings in connection with the church and parsonage; and other substantial improvements hsd also been carried out by the Ladies' Guild in renovating the interior of the church. He also mentioned the work of the ladies in connection with the forthcoming fancy fair, of which onetenth of the sum realised was to go to the Belgian Fund. In conclusion, he urged the praveryful sympathy of i the members in all work of the church without which there could be no true success.
Of the concert items, the solos by Miss Laura Walker were the outstanding attraction and of great merit. She had to respond to enthusiastic encores. Solos by Mr Fisch were also well received, whilst Mr Skam also met with warm encores for his solos, playing his own accompaniments. Miss Rossiter had to respond with an encore number for her eolo, and Miss Fordham was similarly favoured. Mr Leach and Mr long also were encored, and a trio in which Miss Thompson, Messrs long and Ltach were engaged gained an encore. A duet by Messrs Leach and Fisch met with pronounced appreciation, and Miss Ellis's solos met with an encore. Pianoforte solos were given by Messrs Leach and Tong. Accompaniments were played by Miss Ellis and Mr Fram. On the motion of Messrs S. T. Rossiter and C. T. Barriball a hearty vote of thanks was voted to the Concert Committee and all who had assisted at the concert, particularly those who had come from Auckland.
