DANCE AT PUKEKOHE.
To assist the endeavours of Sister Esther in providing for the poor of Auckland a dance was held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday evening last.
As a result of the dance a sum totalling £7 is 6d will be handed to Sister Esther. A strong committee, consisting of Mesdames Motion, Grigor, McArthur, Misses Kennelly, Graham, Bilkoy, Mowes. C'Connor, Townson, Milne, Clarke, and Messrs Motion, Grigor, Marsack, Cargill, Townson, W. Jones, and P. Rowe had the matter in hand for some few weeks past, and thanks to their efforts the verv creditable result was due.
Messrs Cargill and Marsack, as M.'sC, gave every satisfaction That the music supplied by Mrs B. Andrew, Misses Pulleng, Townson, M. O'Connor, \. O'Connor, Clark, and Mr Reid was appreciated was evident by the numerous extra? played. The weather, although of a boisterous nature, did not dampen the ardour of Pukekohe.s dancing enthusiasts, who attended to the number of 25 couples. The hall was prettily decorated with bunting and presented a gay appearance. Supper, provided by the ladies, was handed round in the small hall.
During the course of a few remarks the Mayor complimented Miss and Mrs Townson for their splendid efforts in arranging the dance. Amongst the ladies present were noticed: Mesdames W. Jones, Grigor, Boyd, Cargill, Townson, Norman, McKae, Bayly, Short, Andrew, Misses Townson, Freeman, Shipherd, Prescott, Bilkey, Milne, Webster, G. Stembridge, I. Adams, R. Adams, Short, Bartrom, Kennelly, Brown, Nelson. N. Stewart, Graham, Mitchell, Morris (2 , Batty, Esse, O'Connor (2\ Pulleng (2), Clark and Lawrio.
