A pleasant function took place on Wednesday in connection with he meeting of the Franklin County Council, when, in recognition of his appointment as County Chairman, Mr J. Flanagan entertained his fellow councillors and county officials at dinner at the Pukekohe Hotel. The health uf the chairman was musically honoured on the proposition of Councillor Lockwood, and the toast of the retiring chairman (Councillor Motion) waa also cordially drunk. At the dinner given on Wednesday by Mr Flanagan, the new chairman of the Franklin County Council, to the Council members and staff, Councillor Motion, during the course of a brief toast list, humorously referred to the late hours a* chairman had to keep in connection with hia dutiea as the Chief of the County. Councillor Motion naively added that seeing that Mr Flanagan was a bachelor he would have no wife waiting for him at home to remonstrate with him for neglecting hia household.
