MR CLASS AT PATUMAHOE
Mr Glass, the Opposition candidate for Franklin, delivered a political address in the Patumahoe Hall on Saturday evening to an audience Of about one hundred electors, and received a very fair hearing. Mr Henry, the riding member for the Franklin County, presided. The address was on lines similar to that delivered by the candidate in other parts of the electorate. The audience was a fairly good humoured one, and although interjections were pretty frequent the chairman had little trouble in keeping the interrupters within reasonable bounds. Considerable exception was taken to the catidk'ate's statements re the personal interest of the Government in the prosecution of the Waiuku railway. At the conclusion of Mr Glass' address the chairman asked permission to temporarily vacate the chair and read an article from the Wellintgon "Times" dealiog with the candidate's reported statements of how the head of the Government was being financially benefitted through his interests in the Ostrich Farm estate by the construction of this line. Mr Glass repudiated a part of this article, but stated in explanation that he considered the Ostrich Farm would benefit in keeping with other parts of the district by this railway construction. He stated that he had nothing whatever against the Waiuku railway.
At the conclusion of the meeting a vote of thanks wa? passed to the candidate for his address.
