The second article of our series, "On the Farms," by Agricola, will appear in Tuesday's "Times." It is hoped that these articles will be valuable, in affording farmers comparative information as to the methods of treating crops in this district. The Pukekohe Lawn tennis Club "officially open" their courts to- , morrow. The appointment of Miss A. F. Darby, as assistant of the Pukekohe East school, has been recommended i by the Teachers' Selection Com- i mittee. A meeting of Liberal-Labour electors is to be held in the Masonic hall, Pukekohe, on Monday evening ' next to form a committee tu assist ' the candidature of Mr A. 1. C. Glass for the Franklin constituency. ' The Mayor of Pukekohe has received additional dorations to the , Huntly mines disaster relief fund as follows:—W. Koulston £5 ss, H. S. Baker £1 3s 6d, Mrs J. A. Blake ss. The total is now £l2 14s 6d. A social was held in the Puni acbool on Friday, October 23rd, the , proceeds being given to the Huntly j Relief Fund. The building was packed, and though all tickets have not as vet been returned it is known . that a substantial sum will be handed over to the Huntly Fund. During the evening Mr and Mrs Heamaworth rendered the duet "Life's Dream is O'er" and Mr , Heamaworth Bang "The Bandilero." The dance music was supplied by Mas Pulleng, and Mr J. Moffitt ', acted as M.C. , A large and enthusiastic meeting , of Liberal-Labour representatives assembled in the Masonic hall, Pukekohe, yesterday afternoon, from all parts of the Franklin electorate. : After Mr A. G. C. Glass had I addressed the meeting it was re- i solved unanimously to support him as the selected Liberal candidate to contest the seat with Mr Massey. The organiser of the Franklin Liberal League, Mr Arthur Hunter, was able to report to the meeting i that letters and telegrams offering powerful support to the Liberal ; candidate continued to pour in. Mr • Glass opens his campaign in Puke- • kohe next week. i The death of a very old settler ' occurred at Waiuku on Wednesday ' in the person of Mrs P. Henry, of ' Patumaboe. Mrs Henry, who had ' reached the ripe age of 81 years, | • was born in County Cavan, Ireland. . Fifty-three years ago she came I ' with her husband to New Zealand, ; ' and a vear later, 52 years ago, I ' they settled in Patumahoe. The j ' deceased lady had only been confined 1 to hsr bed for two weeks. Her husband, Mr Philip H. Henry, and I ' six children survive her. Mr Henry, ' ' senr., is now resident at Glenbrook. i The burial was to take place at the ' Roman Catholic cemetery, Pukekohe, i ' to-day. The death removes still i x another of this district's very ' oldest pioneers At their meeting the Franklin County Council passed I ' ;i vote of condolence with Cr J. c Henry in his bereavement. « At a committee meeting of the I v Pukekohe Sports' Club, held on ( Tuesday night, the question of . which Association the club should v affiliate with was discussed at great j length. Representatives of both ' Associations had been asked t-j 0 attend, but only Mr Mulvihili, of the New Zealand Athletic and e Cycling Union, was present. After f listening to his remarks and the a correspondence from the Northern j Athletic Union the meeting decided p to join the New Zealand Athletic f, and Cycling Union. Another r meeting was held on Thursday night, when the programme was c , considered. The prize money will .. amount to over £6O, and the events p will include a £ls Sheffield Handi- 0 cap.
