BUCKLAND.
LAWN TENNIS.
On Saturday the official opening of the tennis court took "place in glorious weather, and ended by what constituted a record crowd for the opening day. Visitors were present from Tuakau, Bombay, Tuakau South and Pokeno. Mr A. P. Home, president of the club, performed the opening ceremony, and Mrs Home hit the first ball over the net. Extensive improvements to the courts have bees effected during the off-season and lovers of the game may be assured uf a real good playing court for the coming season. During the afternoon the ladies served out afternoon tea, and a general friendly practice was indulged in.
TUAKAU.
, DOMAIN BOARD AND TENNIS CLUB.
| An interesting function is to take place on Saturday on the occasion of the opening of the Domain tennis court for the season. The Domain Board have erected a fine commodious pavilion for the Tennis Club, and this will be formally opened in conjunction with the tennis opening. In addition to outside clubs the public have been cordially invited to attend. LADIES' PATRIOTIC FUND. Acting upon the advice of the Auckland Ladies' Patriotic League, the amount collected by tba local ladies, £24 odd, is to be forwarded to the Auckland fund for the purchase of clothing, etc., for the expeditionary forcas. Ladies interested are to meet in the hall next Thursday to arrange a further collection of clothing, etc., to relieve any cases of distress.
DRURY.
HUNTLY RELIEF FUND. On Friday evening last, tnanks to the efforts of the Drnry Euchre Committee, a most successful concert programme was famished in aid ot the Buntls Relief Fond. There was a large and representative gathering and the many excellent items rendered were greatly •njoyed. Mr J. Flanagan presided. The following is a list of the ladies and gentlemen who contributed items:—Miss Quinn. pianoforte selection; Hisses Appleby and Girdwood, pianoforte duet; Miss Jessie Blake, pianoforte selection; Miss McQuellen (Auckland), songs; Mr Matthews (Auckland), recitations; Mr Ihompsou, song; Mr Morgon (Mercer), recitations and song; Mr Fyfe, recitation; Mr Coldicutt, songs. The whole of the accompaniments were played by Miss'Quinn, who tully demonstrated her ability as an accompanist. Mr Drew, in a neat speech, called for a hearty vote of thanks to the performers, some of whom had ttavelled eome distance at their own expense in order to help.
MERCER.
TOWN BOARD ELECTION.
The first election of five commissioners for the Town Board has been fixed for November 19th. Nominations close on November 12tb, at noon. Report hath it that there are numerous aspirants for the honor of being on the first Town Board.
