On the 3rd inst. the total number of applicants for the week was 191; H 1 of whom were assisted to employment. On October 10th there were 76 labourers applying, and work was being found for 30 of them. In addition to labourers, 22 painters have been placed out of 32 applicants. As regards carpenters—27 applicants the only work immediately available is the erection of 25 workers' dwellings, which will be put in hnnd at once. Inquiries an* also being prosecuted with a vie# to finding further work.''
