WAIPIPI ROAD TROUBLE.

Again Before County Council. A Gate Makes Worry. The dispute over the RidgleyJones road was occe more ventilated at the last meeting of the Franklin County Council. It will be remembered that Mr Jones, of Waippi, had a fence across a road through which Mr Ridgley and other settlers desired to pass. As a compromise the Council at a previ.us meeting directed Mr Jones to erect a rata so as to enable the thonughfare to be used. Cr Renall said that Mr Jones had erected a fiimsv gate and even this had been put in men a position that traffic was stopped by a gutter. To get through, Mr Ridgley had to cut the wires and upon coming back he found that two big holes had b<?en du< in the rod. Tntn Mr Ridglev V>ut down a culvert but that was turned up. The Fpeaker raid he did not want f) bs bothered any longer in the mst'er; the read was a 1 gal road and it should be opened. Thj gate that had been p,t up was not a legal gate, cor wai it in the proper position. He believed that Constable Moifit had { been out enquiring into what had ! occurred. ! Mr A. Banna, county solicitor, related the incident when the titree culvert had been set on tire. Mr Jones had erected the gate in an awkward position and two large holes had been dug right in the tairway where they w re likely to cause an accident. Cr Rsnali «as quite rig t in his explanation as to what a 1 gal gate wes. Jf the Council received a petition asking to have the road open it was their duty to act or to give reasons for not so doing. Cr Flanagan said they had no application before them to remove this gatf. He thought the only way out of the difficulty was t? insist upon Mr Jones fencing this road; that would end the trout I ?s for all time. Cr Renall said that win what the petitiners asked for. He moved now, Thst the previous resoluti n (asking Mr Jones to erect a gatt) be r sanded, and that Mr Jones be directed to rexeve these fences. After rome further discussion the chairman (Mr Motion) moved, Th3t no acti n be taken un'il some com plaint is made. Thi3 wa9 scco ded by Cr Wilc.x and carried.
